Stolen ute spiked three times during pursuit, SA

Two men were arrested after a police pursuit of a stolen ute in the Riverland overnight. Police spiked the vehicle's tyres three times during the pursuit, according to SA Police.

Police attempted to pull over a ute spotted driving without lights in Worman Street, Berri just after 1.30am on Thursday 20 October, however, the driver failed to stop.

Police managed to spike the ute's tyres at the intersection of Thiele Road and Puddletown Road at Glossop, however, the vehicle continued on, driving through vineyards and on dirt roads.

About 2.20am, the ute entered the Loveday 4X4 park, and, when it exited the park, police again spiked the vehicle's tyres and again further down the road.

The ute finally slowed down and came to a stop and the two occupants were arrested. There were no injuries during the incident.

The white ute had been stolen from Loxton a few days earlier.

The driver, an 18-year-old Riverland man, was charged with illegal use, drive dangerously to evade police, drive while disqualified, property damage and breach of bail.

The passenger, a 29-year-old Renmark man, was charged with illegal use.

Both were refused police bail and will appear in the Berri Magistrates Court today.
