Stolen valuable cross from St David’s Cathedral recovered, TAS

On the 23 October 2016 a male person entered St David’s Cathedral in Murray Street Hobart and stole a large solid brass cross from the cathedrals altar. The cross was approximately 1 meter tall and weighed approximately 10 kg, Tasmania Police say.

On the 28 October Detectives from Hobart CIB searched a Bridgewater residence and located the cross reportedly valued at $20,000.

A 24 year old Bridgewater man was arrested and charged with stealing.

The cross has been returned to the cathedral.
