Police have charged a man and a woman following a number of alleged incidents that have occurred over recently, Queensland Police say.
Sunshine Coast Detectives have been investigating a number of property offences that started with a vehicle being stolen on January 26 in Caloundra.
Police officers patrolling then spotted the vehicle on February 27 at a service station in Monkland and when officers have attempted to get into the vehicle, it is alleged the vehicle struck the police vehicle causing damage to the passenger side door before driving off.
In the following weeks, the vehicle was sighted by police a number of times and was allegedly linked to a number of offences and was also driving dangerously when it was sighted by Pol Air yesterday afternoon at Sippy Downs.
The vehicle was tracked by Pol Air and officers on the ground and the vehicle allegedly drove dangerously for around an hour and a half before it was abandoned at a Morayfield shopping centre and two people were taken into custody.
Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Darren Edwards wants to remind the community to secure their vehicles, keys and belongings.
"One of the easiest ways to prevent offenders from stealing vehicles is to secure your keys and keep them out of sight," he said.
"Our officers work hard day in day out to keep the community safe, and while it seems like a simple thing to do, making it difficult for opportunistic offenders to steal keys to vehicles and property assists police greatly in reducing property crime on the Sunshine Coast and in Queensland."
A 21-year-old man has been charged with five counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, ten counts of stealing, three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of failure to stop and two counts of enter premises with intent.
He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
A 25-year-old woman has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of dangerous drugs and wilful damage.
She is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
