Stolen Vehicle and Robbery in Tamworth: Police Appeal

Police are appealing for public assistance after the theft of a car and a bag snatch at Tamworth earlier this week.

About 9pm (Monday 24 April 2023), a Mitsubishi Lancer was reported stolen from an address on Cossa Street, West Tamworth.

About 9.45pm, a man threatened a woman on Ann Newman Lane, Tamworth, before stealing her handbag from her car.

The woman was not injured during the incident.

The man was seen to run to a Mitsubishi Lancer parked nearby and drive from the scene.

A second man was seen sitting in the passenger's seat of the car.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were contacted and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The first man is described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 18 and 20-years-old, dark complexion, 170cm tall, and of a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded jumper and black shorts.

The second man is described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and was wearing a black hooded jumper.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information about the two incidents is urged to call Tamworth Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
