Stolen vehicle and suspicious car fire, Condon and Douglas

Police have arrested and taken two people in custody following a suspicious car fire and stolen vehicle incidents around Townsville in the early hours of this morning.

Around 3.30am, emergency services were called to a vehicle fire at Giraween Avenue, Douglas, where they located a stolen Mitsubishi Lancer engulfed in flames. The vehicle was destroyed.

In a separate incident at 3.40am, police deployed a tyre deflation device on a stolen Jeep Cherokee in Condon.

The Jeep, which was stolen earlier in the night from Tern Court, Condon, was found abandoned a short time later in Ridley Drive, Kirwan.

It will be alleged, two passengers in the Jeep were picked up by a stolen Chrysler which later crashed into a fence a short distance away and the driver and passengers again fled.

A man and woman were taken into custody at the scene and are assisting police with their enquiries.

Police were then called around 4am, after a male forced his way into a house on Riverwalk Way, Douglas. The occupant was assaulted by the male before a car was stolen from the residence and was located a short distance away. The male resident was transported to Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

Investigations are ongoing.
