Police have charged two people after a stolen car was allegedly driven into a police vehicle at Aitkenvale yesterday, 18 January.
Around 3.20pm, POLAIR tracked a Toyota Hilux utility, allegedly bearing false registration plates, to a shopping centre on Ross River Road.
Responding police stopped behind the vehicle in the car park at which time it will be alleged the driver of the Hilux reversed into the marked police car, causing minor damage.
The utility was then allegedly driven forward, colliding with another parked car, before police took the male driver and female passenger into custody.
No one was injured during the incident.
It will be alleged the Hilux had been stolen from a home on Bayswater Road, Currajong on 5 January.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located a homemade pistol as well as various items of stolen property and a small quantity of drugs.
A 22-year-old Kirwan man has been charged with 16 offences including two counts of unlawful possession of category D/H/R weapon and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs, disqualified driving and drive without due care and attention.
He is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today, 19 January.
The passenger, a 32-year-old Deeragun woman, is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on 4 February, charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing dangerous drugs.
