Store robbed by man armed with steel file at Parkes

A man is due to appear in court after allegedly threatening staff at a Parkes store with a steel file.

About 3.30pm yesterday (Friday 12 February 2021), a man entered a store on Clarinda Street and removed a steel file from the hardware section.

Police will allege the man walked to the front of the store and threatened an employee with the file, demanding cash.

He was handed cash and left the store.

Officers attached to Central West Police District were alerted and initiated an extensive search of the Parkes CBD, arresting a 39-year-old man at 5.30pm.

When searched, police found cash in the man's underwear.

A steel file was found in a bush a short distance from the store and has been seized for further examination.

He was taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon.

The man has been refused bail to appear before Dubbo Local Court later today (Saturday 13 February 2021).
