Consultation for the Strategic Examination of Research and Development (R&D) had strong engagement from stakeholders across Australia.
The Australian Government appointed a panel of experts to complete a strategic examination of Australia's R&D system.
More than 600 stakeholders attended roundtables and webinars where the expert panel outlined issues and goals for this project. There was a strong response to the public consultation with almost 500 submissions. Responses came from industry, academics, researchers, government and other stakeholders. Thank you to everyone who submitted a response, or attended an event. We value your input and engagement.
Initial feedback showed that Australia has great untapped potential in R&D. Stakeholders favoured a cohesive system from initial research through to commercialisation. Their feedback showed a clear call for a focus on strategic research aligned with national priorities such as clean energy, climate resilience and medical technologies.
We've published a summary of findings with insights and analysis. We've also published submissions.
In the next phase, the panel will focus on finding solutions to key issues. They will provide a final report with recommendations to government later this year.
