Strengthening human rights in Tunisia

Council of Europe

As part of a joint Council of Europe/EU project "Support for independent bodies in Tunisia (PAII-T)", a two-day online conference on "Independent bodies serving citizens: strengthening human rights in Tunisia" is highlighting the project's achievements and its impact on citizens.

Participants - including Ministers, Presidents of the independent bodies and high-level Council of Europe, EU and civil society representatives - are assessing the role of independent bodies in consolidating democracy, rule of law, and human rights in Tunisia. In his address on the opening day, 25 May, Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge marked the 10 years since the "groundbreaking decision" was made in May 2011 to establish a policy for cooperation with neighbouring regions.
