Structure Fire - Livingstone

NT Government

Upon arrival, crews found a ground level house well alight with fire spreading from the eastern side of the veranda to the dining, kitchen, lounge and one bedroom, causing extensive damage to the home.

Bushfires NT also attended the scene and worked together with NTFRS crews to contain the blaze and stop it spreading to nearby bushland. The fire was extinguished shortly after 6pm.

NTFRS initially treated the male occupant for injuries to his back, he was then re-assessed and treated on scene by St John NT.

NT Police and NTFRS Fire Investigators attended the scene and have determined the fire to be non-suspicious, and most probably the result of an electrical malfunction during charging of a battery on a petrol ride on mower.

Quotes attributed to NTFRS Territory Duty Officer Ian Lockley AFSM:

"We're seeing an increase in structure fires across the Territory and this is another timely reminder for people to check their smoke alarms are in good working condition, and to practice their fire escape plans with all members of their households, so everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency.

"I thank the attending crews for their fast and effective response in extinguishing the fire and providing first aid assistance to the occupant before paramedics arrived."
