Griffith City Council is calling on local children to help brighten the lives of nursing home residents this Local Government Week (4-10 August 2025), through a heartfelt initiative as part of Council's We Are Griffith campaign.
The Postcards of Kindness project invites students to decorate postcards and write uplifting, thoughtful messages that will be delivered to residents in aged care facilities across Griffith.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran, said the initiative is a simple yet powerful way to foster connection between generations.
"Everyone loves receiving mail, especially when it's filled with kind, positive words," he said.
"Postcards of Kindness allows our younger generation to reach out to older members of our community and make a real difference to someone's day. This has the potential to make a meaningful and lasting legacy for both generations, I'm so happy Council is leading this initiative."
Postcards are available to collect from any Griffith City Council facility – Griffith City Library, Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre, Griffith Regional Sports Centre, Griffith Regional Theatre, Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Griffith Tourism Hub, Griffith Pioneer Park Museum and the Council Chambers.
Once postcards are ready, drop them to any of the abovementioned facilities and we will then distribute to local aged care facilities.
