Sunglasses thief strikes in Williamstown

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a hammer broke into a Williamstown optometrist early this morning.

A witness called police after seeing the man, whose face was covered with a scarf, smash the front window of the Douglas Parade business about 1.30am.

The thief reached into the window and it's believed stole several pairs of designer sunglasses before being disturbed by the witness and fleeing.

He was last seen driving from the scene in a dark-coloured SUV.

Police are investigating and urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
