Tasmania has what the rest of the nation needs and wants, low cost, reliable energy and our clean green electricity network is set to power the next generation of vehicles on Tasmanian roads.
The Government's investment of more than half a million dollars into a state-wide electric vehicle fast charging network will stimulate a total spend of over $2.5 million.
Not only will drivers be able to access 14 new charging stations at 12 different locations, but will be able to charge up in a matter of minutes at several locations, with the rollout of ultra-fast charging stations.
The fast charging network will be supplemented by the state's destination charging stations at businesses, carparks and visitors destinations, which the Hodgman Liberal Government has already invested $50,000 in.
Electric vehicles powered by Tasmanian renewable energy have enormous potential to significantly improve the state's vehicle fleet through reduced costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Tasmania was the first jurisdiction in Australia to achieve zero net emissions, and we are on target to deliver full self-sufficiency in renewables by 2022.
Through the Government's Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants – Fast Charging program we are empowering more Tasmanians to take up electric vehicle ownership and reduce their carbon footprint.
