Applications are now open for the Australian Government's $20 million Live Music Australia program, with $2.5 million in targeted funding available to assist with the rising costs of organising and hosting music festivals in 2023.
The live performance sector was hit hard by the pandemic. It was one of the first industries shut down - and two-and-a-half years later it's still a long way from normal.
That's why the Albanese Labor Government is providing support to help Australian live music festivals in their recovery.
The Government is also conscious of the impact on live music venues - which is why the next round of funding will focus on them.
Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said the updated guidelines reflect the Government's commitment to addressing the ongoing needs of the sector - including increasing business costs and risk, while supporting accessibility and appropriate pay for artists.
"I love music festivals. I've been visiting them for years and I want to see them pumping out great live music as soon as possible.
"Festivals are the backbone of Australia's live music industry. This support will ensure we get more artists back on stage doing what they do best.
"This Government will always back in Australia's live music industry - and that's exactly what this funding will do."
To be eligible for funding under the fifth round of the Live Music Australia program, applicants will need to demonstrate their commitment to hosting music focused festivals and presenting original Australian live music acts.
Applications for Round 5 of the Live Music Australia program close on Thursday 17 November at 11:30pm.
