The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to engaging our young people in the arts and creative industries.
In the latest funding rounds through Arts Tasmania, we will invest $300,000 to support initiatives that will nurture young people as artists, participants and audience members.
The Youth Arts Organisations fund and Tasmanian Aboriginal Arts Mentoring Scheme both provide opportunities for our young people to engage with, or create artistic work.
Tasmania's arts and cultural sector is a critical part of the State, injecting approximately $179 million into the Tasmanian economy a year and directly employing approximately 5,000 people. These grants programs are an important way of fostering new talent into the sector.
Organisations to benefit from Youth Arts Organisations funding include Ulverstone-based Slipstream Circus, which will use this support to grow the skills of the young people it employs as performers and mentors. It will also continue to develop its young company members to create a new work that celebrates the organisation's 20th anniversary.
Tasmania's next generation of classical musicians and singers will be given further opportunities to engage with professional composers, conductors and performers, with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra receiving funding towards its state-wide program in 2020.
Other organisations to receive support under the latest round of this initiative include all that we are, Archipelago Productions, DRILL Youth Performance Company and RANT Arts Ltd.
Under the Tasmanian Aboriginal Arts Mentoring Scheme, four Tasmanian Aboriginal artists will each receive support of $10,000 to engage in mentorships that will greatly develop their creative and professional skills.
