The Tasmanian Government continues to support young people who have spent time in the Out of Home Care system and are transitioning into adulthood, through ongoing investment in the Transition to Independence (T2i) Program.
Minister for Children and Youth, Jo Palmer, said some young people require care and support beyond the age of 18.
"It is important that young people in care have the support they need as they transition into adulthood," Minister Palmer said.
"The program enables family-based foster households to support the young person in their home after their care and protection order lapses at 18 years."
T2i advisors provide high level guidance to young people aged 17 to 21 to ensure they are safe and connected while they navigate living as an independent young adult.
Since its launch in July 2020, the program has supported 472 young Tasmanians.
T2i offers varying levels of support including complex case coordination, crisis support or one-off support. It is a flexible service model that is driven by the young person's individual needs and goals.
"We are investing $6.2 million to continue the successful delivery of the T2i program," Minister Palmer said.
"Our Government is delivering for Tasmania by ensuring young people have the support they need as they move into adulthood."
The Tasmanian Government will continue to ensure young people leaving care have access to stable, personalised support as they build their futures.
