A surfer has suffered minor injuries after being bitten by a shark on the Mid North Coast today.
About 10.15am (Tuesday 20 January 2026), the man was surfing at Point Plomer when a shark took hold of the man's surfboard.
During the incident, the 39-year-old man sustained a wound to his chest.
The man attended Kempsey District Hospital a short time later where he was treated for the injury.
Upon discharge from hospital, the man attended Kempsey Police Station where the incident was reported.
Nearby beaches, including Point Plomer Beach, One Palm Beach, Back Beach and Queens Head, have been closed.
