Suspect Detained After South Hobart Firearms Incident

A person is in custody after a firearms incident in Syme Street, South Hobart in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to a residence in Syme Street just before 1.20am, after reports of a disturbance in the area.

A short time later, police were called to the Royal Hobart Hospital where a 17-year-old man presented with a gunshot wound to his back.

Detectives from South East CIB arrested a man this morning and he remains in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.

A crime scene was declared at an address in Syme Street, and police remain at the scene.

A shotgun has been recovered by police.

The victim has undergone surgery, and remains in a critical, but stable condition in Royal Hobart Hospital.
