A man will face court today charged over an alleged police pursuit in the Northern Tablelands at the weekend.
About 2.40am yesterday (Sunday 1 March 2020), officers from New England Police District were patrolling Armidale township when they stopped a white ute, which was missing the rear registration plates, on Queen Elizabeth Drive.
As the officers got out of their vehicle and approached the ute, the driver sped from the location.
A police pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
The vehicle was seen driving along Marsh Street, where the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
Police rendered first aid to the 19-year-old male driver and 22-year-old male passenger until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics who took the men to Armidale Hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
Following his release from hospital, the man was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, possess prohibited drug, and breach of bail.
Police will allege in court that methylamphetamine was seized during a search of the ute.
He has been refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court today (Monday 2 March 2020).
The passenger of the ute has also been released from hospital and no police action is expected.
