Suspended teenage driver charged after police pursuit - Balmain

A 17-year-old boy has been charged following a police pursuit in Sydney's inner west this morning.

About 1.05am (Monday 17 June 2019), officers attached to Leichhardt Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement on the Iron Cove Bridge at Drummoyne as part of Operation Interceptor – a high visibility traffic operation focused within the central metropolitan area – detected a Ford XR6 travelling at 115km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Police initiated a pursuit when the Ford failed to stop when directed, which continued through Rozelle and Balmain, before being terminated due to the vehicle's dangerous manner of driving.

After patrolling the surrounding area, the Ford was located in Caroline Lane, East Balmain, containing a 17-year-old boy and two 15-year-old girls.

The boy was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with fail to stop – police pursuit (Skye's Law), drive manner dangerous, drive whilst licence suspended, and exceed speed limit over 45km/h.

He was refused bail to appear at a children's court today (Monday 17 June 2019).
