Suspicious bushfires in Tarrawanna

Police are appealing for witnesses after suspicious bushfires north of Wollongong, NSW Police say.

About 6.40am today (Tuesday 24 April 2018), emergency services were called to bushland on Hawthorne Street, Tarrawanna.

As emergency services arrived, they sighted three males, described as teenagers, leaving the scene on foot towards the Towradgi Creek residential area.

The fire was quickly brought under control by Rural Fire Service (RFS) personell, with about 1.5 acres of bushland burnt in the fire.

Yesterday (Monday 23 April 2018), another fire burnt about half an acre of bushland nearby.

Police have increased patrols in the area due to these suspicious bushfire incidents, and inquiries continue.
