Suspicious fire at Biggera Waters, QLD

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at Biggera Waters in the early hours of this morning, Queensland Police say.

Around 4.20am, police were called to an apartment complex on East Quay Drive with reports of an explosion and smoke issuing from the basement.

On arrival, crews located four cars well-engulfed in the building’s underground carpark.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service officers extinguished the fire while police evacuated residents from the six storey building.

No one was injured during the fire.

Four cars were destroyed and the building sustained extensive damage.

Preliminary information indicates that the fire may have been deliberately lit using an accelerant.

A crime-scene has now been set up while investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.
