Suspicious Fire Under Probe in Camperdown Residential Complex

An investigation is underway after a fire at a residential complex in Camperdown overnight.

Emergency services were called to Pyrmont Bridge Road about 10.45pm (Thursday 7 March 2024), after fire was seen in a stairwell on the eighth floor of the multi-storey building.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command and Highway Patrol closed surrounding streets as a precaution as Fire and Rescue NSW utilised specialist equipment to extinguish the blaze.

All roads were re-opened by 12.15am (Friday 8 March 2024).

Police have been told a mattress and furniture was set alight in the stairwell. The fire is being treated as suspicious.

There were no injuries reported from the incident and no evacuations required.
