Suspicious shopping centre fire in Hurstville

Witnesses to a suspicious shopping centre fire in Hurstville this afternoon are urged to come forward as investigations into the incident continue, NSW Police say.

Just before 2pm today, emergency services were called to a department store at a shopping centre on Park Road following reports of fire alarms activated.

An off-duty Rural Fire Service officer attended to the blaze which had erupted in the Manchester section of the department store using a fire extinguisher.

Staff and customers were evacuated and the fire was extinguished a short time later. No one was injured; however, about 30 square metres of the store was damaged.

Officers from St George Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

As inquiries into the incident continue, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
