In a stunning stroke of luck, a dad from Sutherland Shire has won a massive $32 million in the Oz Lotto's Boxing Day draw, becoming one of three people in New South Wales to hit the jackpot. Each winner, in the draw held on 26 December 2023, secured an equal share of the $97.9 million prize, taking home about $33 million each.
The Sutherland Shire man, who initially confused his grand prize for a mere $32,000, was left in sheer disbelief when the reality of his newfound fortune sank in. With his substantial winnings, he plans to invest in a new home, ensure the financial future of his children, and treat his family to an overseas holiday.
“What!?! Thirty-two million!?” he exclaimed when a lotto official repeated his prize amount.
“I read it as $32,000! I didn’t read it properly.
“That is so awesome! That is insane. That’s crazy.
“I saw there was a big draw tonight and I just thought, ‘stuff it, I’m going for it’.
“I can’t believe it! This type of thing doesn’t happen to someone like me.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
While admitting he was unlikely to get much sleep after the multi-million-dollar revelation, the man shared some initial thoughts on how he might use the prize.
“I want to buy a house, set the kids up and enjoy a holiday overseas,” he said.
“Family is everything to me!”
This extraordinary win is shared with two other individuals from New South Wales. One of these winners, a man from Campbelltown, also clinched $32 million, considering early retirement and supporting his family with his prize. The third winner, having purchased their ticket at a NSW Lotteries outlet in the Cumberland Shire, remains a mystery as they have yet to answer their phone.
