Sutherland Educator Charged With Child, Animal Abuse Material

A man has been refused bail and will remain in custody until February next year after appearing in Sutherland Local Court charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material in Sydney's south.

Detectives attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command commenced an investigation last Sunday (7 December 2025), after a 50-year-old man allegedly engaged in online communication with a person he believed was a 15-year-old girl.

Following a review of the man's mobile phone, detectives allegedly located videos depicting child abuse material.

On Tuesday 9 December 2025, the 50-year-old man – who worked as a child educator – was arrested at Sutherland Police Station.

As part of the investigation, police seized a number of electronic items which will be examined by specialist police.

The man was charged with possess child abuse material, and possess bestiality material.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Sutherland Local Court that day (Tuesday 9 December 2025), where bail was formally refused, to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 3 February 2026.

Police have been advised the man was immediately prohibited from working in the early learning sector anywhere in Australia by the NSW Early Learning Commission.
