Sutherland Shire Council unanimously resolved to write to The Hon Scott Morrison, MP Prime Minister congratulating him on his elevation to the position of Prime Minister.
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce presented the Mayoral Minute to Jenny Morrison, wife of Australia’s new Prime minister, at tonight’s Council meeting.
"Mr Morrison has been a good friend and mentor to me and is a person whom I very much look up to," said Mayor Pesce.
"Mr Morrison is highly regarded by many people in the local community and is known to be exceptional capable, approachable, down to earth, hard-working, and most importantly, keenly focussed on the wellbeing of Sutherland Shire."
Mr Morrison was sworn in as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia, also becoming the first Sutherland Shire sitting member to reach that office.
"I’m sure that even those in our community who are different political persuasion to Mr Morrison will agree it is a great honour and privilege to have a local member in such a distinguished position and a matter of great pride for the whole Sutherland Shire," Mayor Pesce added.
