Swan Hill Rural City Council will deliver three new raised Pedestrian Operated Signal (POS) crossings in Swan Hill, further improving safety, accessibility and connectivity in the city centre.
The new signalised crossings will make it easier and safer for residents and visitors to move around the CBD, providing accessible crossing points for people of all ages and abilities.
The projects include:
- Beveridge Street crossing - Near Coles
- Campbell Street crossing - Commercial Hotel
- Campbell Street crossing - Between Rutherford to McCrae St
Mayor Cr Stuart King said the upgrades are an important step in creating a safer, more accessible CBD.
"Council is committed to improving pedestrian safety and making it easier for people of all ages and abilities to move around our city centre," Cr King said.
He said the raised crossings will help slow traffic and reduce the risk of serious injuries, giving pedestrians greater confidence when moving through the CBD.
The new signals will also support smoother traffic flow and provide clearer crossing points during busy periods.
All three projects are funded by the Victorian Government through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which is providing $214 million to make local roads safer across Victoria.
