Sydney Women Stand Up and Walk Out for Equal Pay and Economic Security – at 3.50pm, Wednesday 5th December

What: #WalkOutOz Rally

Where: Martin Place, Sydney

When: 3.50pm, Wednesday 5th December

On December 5th at 3.50pm, women (and hopefully a few men!) will take a stand by leaving work early to gather at Martin Place, Sydney, to show their support for women's financial security.

Why 3.50pm? Compared to men, Australian women work an additional 70 minutes a day on an average for free3. The walkout aims to demonstrate what that means in a very tangible way - at the time women technically stop getting paid for their work every day.

Did you know, in Australia:

- Women retire with 42% less super

- Women earn up to 23% less than men over the employment lifecycle

- One in two women experience workplace discrimination for being mothers

- Single women over 55 are the fastest growing homeless demographic

- Women graduates start on lower salaries than men

"We're not asking for more, we're asking for fair," said Fi Bendall, CEO of the Female Social Network and #WalkOutOz spokesperson. "The WalkOutOz rally is all about equality and a fair go for working women in Australia. We're encouraging women and men to leave work early – at 3.50pm – to demonstrate their support."

The rally will include speeches from Fi Bendall, Victoria Weekes (Chairperson, Australian Gender Equality Council) and Eva Cox (Feminist Academic, Adjunct Professor UTS).

"If you have a meeting you can't miss or want to support from interstate, #standup from your office or wherever you are and share a photo on social media using the hashtag #Walkoutoz," says Fi Bendall.
