Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after an electronic device was stolen from a restaurant in Wantirna South on 13 April, Victoria Police say.
Police have been told an iPad Air had been accidentally left on a table at the Burwood Highway restaurant sometime between 8am and 10.15am.
A man was spotted holding the iPad before it disappeared.
Police have released images of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.
He is described as aged in his early 20s and about 170cm tall with a black beard.
The man was wearing a black T-shirt, black jeans, black Clark shoes and a black baseball cap backwards.
Anyone with information or who recognises the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
