The Morrison Government provided additional support to families impacted by bushfires to access child care in the March quarter.
The Government provided $1.24 million in Temporary Financial Hardship payments to the families of 5,340 children in child care, which was an increase in payments of 95 per cent, driven predominantly by the impact of the bushfires.
In addition to this, according to child care data published today from the March 2020 quarter:
- Out-of-pocket costs were less than $5 per hour per child for the parents of 71.4 per cent of children using the CCS in centre based day care.
- Out-of-pocket costs were less than $2 per hour per child for the parents of nearly 24 per cent of children using the CCS in centre based day care.
- The number of children attending approved child care was 1,376,470.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Morrison Government continued to support families to access more care.
"Our Government paid $1.94 billion in Child Care Subsidy entitlements in the March 2020 quarter," Mr Tehan said. "The Government is committed to providing support to families and ensuring that the most support is provided to the families that earn the least.
"We have ensured there is support in place for families recovering from the effects of last summer's bushfires, where and when they need it."
