Targeted crime and road safety operation in Launceston, TAS

Tasmania Police conducted a targeted operation in Launceston and surrounding suburbs last night, resulting in arrests for crimes including armed robbery, Tasmania Police say.

Members from Launceston Police, Newnham Police, Ravenswood Police, Criminal Investigation Branch and the Roads and Public Order Section conducted activities focussing on road safety offences and criminal activity.

Drug detection dog Fang and handler participated in the operation and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also called to assist locating offenders who had evaded police in vehicles and on foot.

Two men were arrested for recent crimes which involved armed robbery and possessing stolen property.

Other detected offences included drug driving, evade police, hooning, and breach of court bail.

A vehicle was clamped for hooning and further investigation is being conducted for other offences.
