Taskforce Maxima arrests, drugs and weapons

Taskforce Maxima has arrested two people, including a patched Hells Angels OMCG member in separate overnight incidents, Queensland Police say.

Yesterday a 29-year-old Ipswich man was arrested on drug and weapons charges. The man is a manager at a Rocklea-based transport firm and his arrest follows an investigation into allegations of methylamphetamine supply and use by employees of the company.

Officers from Taskforce Maxima executed search warrants on a South Ripley home, a Rocklea office and a private motor vehicle. A small quantity of methylamphetamine, a number of mobile telephones and a range of drug-related items were seized. Also located were a number of weapons including a handheld electronic stun gun and a replica hand gun.

Acting Detective Inspector Jason Gough said that the use of amphetamine type substances within the transport industry was an ongoing concern. "In previous days, two drivers from this particular company have tested positive for methylamphetamine during roadside testing. Our investigations are continuing to identify and disrupt organised crime links to this activity," he said.

In a separate investigation, officers from Taskforce Maxima arrested a 41-year-old patched member of the Gold Coast chapter of the Hells Angels OMCG during a traffic intercept on the Gold Coast Highway.

During the search of a black BMW last night, officers found a dangerous drug, three knives (including one branded with Hells Angels insignia), a spiked knuckle duster and a meat cleaver.

The man was arrested and charged at the Southport Magistrates Court with one count each of possess knife in a public place, possess category M weapon and possess dangerous drug.
