Tasmania again leads nation in confidence in our economy

Peter Gutwein,Premier & Treasurer

The latest Sensis Business Index for August 2020 shows that for the 11th report in a row, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has the most popular policies for business in the nation.

Tasmanian businesses are also the most confident about our economy in the country, with the report stating that "Small and Medium Businesses in Tasmania are the most positive about their state economy."

Importantly, in such uncertain times it's pleasing that Tasmanian small and medium businesses are more confident than those nationally, with nearly half extremely or fairly confident about the future.

This builds on last week's ABS job numbers which showed that 13,400 Tasmanians are now back in work in seasonally adjusted terms, since May, the height of the pandemic.

While we have a long way to go to recover and rebuild a stronger Tasmania, these results demonstrate that we should be cautiously optimistic as we continue to manage the pandemic.

The Government will continue to sensibly and responsibly support Tasmanians through these extraordinarily difficult times, and support our economy with opportunities to grow jobs.

We will continue to adopt bold strategies to back our competitive advantages, support investment, and grow business confidence even more.
