Tasmania plays host to national hockey champions

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Sport and Recreation

It was a great honour to present the gold medals and perpetual shields to the championship winners at the Under-18 Men's and Women's Australian Championships.

Seeing the next generation of hockey stars competing here in Hobart was a great opportunity that will inspire many aspiring players into the future.

The Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of hockey, and we are delighted to be supporting Hockey Tasmania in hosting these National Championships in our state.

The Government's $495,000 five-year funding agreement is expected to deliver 100,000 total bed nights across the state, and inject $12 million into the Tasmanian economy.

These national championships are Hockey Australia's premier national event for the 18 and under age group, and the Tasmanian Government is proud to support the event in Hobart.

Tasmania will once again play host to hockey players from across the nation, when we welcome the 13 and under Australian Boys and Girls Carnival in six months time.
