Tasmania's housing and construction industry remains strong

Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction

As the new Minister for Building and Construction, it is fantastic to see the latest ABS figures released today, confirming Tasmania has the strongest growth in the number of dwelling approvals in Australia, demonstrating the Hodgman Liberal Government's plan to support the building industry is working.

Not only did dwelling approvals rise by 14 per cent in the year to May 2019 compared to the previous year, but the total value of residential buildings approved grew by 20.2 per cent over the same period.

The figures demonstrate the housing sector is stronger, and there are now almost 100 more homes on average being approved each month compared to the last year of the Labor-Green Government.

The Hodgman Liberal Government understands there is a high demand for new housing across Tasmania, and our continued support is having a positive impact on increasing the number of homes being built for Tasmanians in need.
