Tasmania tops nation in business confidence

The latest Sensis Business Index results once again confirm that Tasmanian small and medium businesses are the most confident in the nation, in both metropolitan and regional areas.

Impressively, Tasmanian business confidence outpaced the rest of the nation, recording the only positive increase out of all states and territories.

Across a range of indicators, from business confidence; to the perception of the economy; to the hiring of new staff, Tasmanian small and medium businesses reported either the most favourable results, or the most optimistic expectations, in the nation.

This is further proof the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s Plan for Tasmania is working. The Government’s disciplined economic management has resulted in this boost to confidence, which drives economic growth and helps create more jobs.

Businesses are responding well to the Government’s policies too – for the fifth consecutive quarter rating our policies the most popular in the nation.

This is in stark contrast to the period of the Labor-Green Government, when two out of every three businesses felt that the Government was working against them.

Today’s Sensis Business Index comes on top of a number of reports which confirm what many Tasmanians know to be the case – that our economy is strong – and that businesses are confident, investing more and hiring more.

Despite this, we know that more needs to be done and the Government will continue to support investment and jobs right around Tasmania.
