Tasmanian Climate Change Office

The Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Tasmanian Climate Change Office has been named as a finalist in the 2018 Banksia Sustainability Awards.

The Tasmanian Climate Change Office coordinates the Tasmanian Government’s response to climate change, including the delivery of Climate Action 21: Tasmania’s Climate Change Action Plan 2017-2021, which was released in 2017.

Its application highlights Tasmania’s achievement of zero net emissions in 2015‑16. This notable achievement makes Tasmania the first Australian jurisdiction to meet this target.

The Banksia Foundation recognises the contributions of individuals and organisations across Australia working to achieve and promote sustainability.

In being named as a finalist in the Government category, the Tasmanian Climate Change Office has been recognised for its efforts to build strong, collaborative partnerships with all levels of government, non-government organisations, businesses and the community, in leading projects to address climate change.

The Banksia Sustainability Awards are the longest-running sustainability awards in the world, with the Banksia Foundation celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018.

The winners of the Awards will be announced at a presentation in Melbourne on 29 November 2018.
