Tasmanian Craft Fair award winner announced

Tonight I was delighted to present the Premier’s Award for Excellence to artist Jean Swinyard at the annual Tasmanian Craft Fair in Deloraine.

The $10,000 acquisitive award is funded by the Tasmanian Government for the most outstanding new work in any medium, which has not previously been exhibited and is less than a year old.

The Premier’s Award for Excellence is one of the major awards at the Tasmanian Craft Fair and recognises the artist who best demonstrates creativity, innovation and quality, while also acknowledging the significant role that artists and crafts people play in the economic and cultural life of Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Craft Fair, which has brought creativity and excitement to Deloraine since its inception in 1981, will run until Monday, 5 November 2018 and showcases the work of many talented local, national and international craft practitioners and exhibitors.

The Tasmanian Craft Fair was established by the Rotary Club of Deloraine to promote the beauty of the region and is the largest event of its kind in Australia, with more than $3 million raised for community projects in the past 38 years.
