Tasmanian Seafood Makes Splash In China

Tasmanian Government

Tasmania's premium seafood exporters and industry bodies will take centre stage at a leading seafood tradeshow in China.

The China Fisheries and Seafood Expo is one of the largest seafood tradeshows in the world, last year attracting over 42,000 people from 136 countries.

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said participating in tradeshows enables producers to tell their story, build relationships and secure new commercial opportunities.

"Mainland China and Hong Kong are vital markets for our premium seafood, accounting for nearly $57 million in 2024-25 of our abalone and rock lobster exports," Minister Barnett said.

"Tasmania's southern rock lobsters and our abalone are renowned for their flavour, provenance and premium quality.

"This is about more than just showcasing our products – it's about forging long-term partnerships that deliver real outcomes for Tasmanian businesses, which in turn, creates jobs and delivers economic prosperity for our state.

"We are delivering for Tasmania by backing our seafood exporters to take Tasmania to the world."

The Tasmanian businesses and industry councils participating in the expo include:

* Dragon Tasmania (represented by ABTEC, JSJ Seafood and Red Rock Lobster)

* Hai Loong Seafood

* Oscar Tasmanian Seafood

* Tasmanian Abalone Council

* Tasmanian Aboriginal Seafoods

* Tasmanian Seafoods

The expo is on in Qingdao until 31 October 2025.
