Tasmanians encouraged to honour ANZAC Day at home

Tasmanian Labor
  • An ANZAC Day like no other
  • Tasmanians encouraged to Light up the Dawn
  • Take time to reflect on sacrifices made
  • Acting Shadow Minister for Veteran Affairs, Josh Willie MLC, is encouraging Tasmanians to honour our defence forces from home this ANZAC Day.

"It will be an ANZAC Day like no other with commemorations in our communities cancelled but Tasmanians can still show their respect by standing at their driveway, front door or balcony with a candle for Light up the Dawn," Mr Willie said.

"It's also great to see ABC Radio broadcasting a local Tasmanian service tomorrow morning.

"ANZAC Day has a special place in the hearts of all Australians and while we have to do things differently during the COVID-19 pandemic, the spirit of the ANZAC's lives on.

"It is important for current generations to reflect on the sacrifice of all Australians who have served our country and importantly remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"Personally, I was really looking forward to honouring my Pop by wearing his medals at commemoration events this year but instead I will wear them at home and hope I get the opportunity next year. Lest we forget."
