Remote communities, including First Nations communities, will benefit from free tax assistance and education under the Albanese Government's National Tax Clinic program.
The program is administered by the Australian Taxation Office and supports outreach services delivered by universities and TAFEs.
It delivers practical tax and superannuation support that helps people navigate their obligations and entitlements.
The clinics also provide valuable opportunities for students undertaking tax‑related courses at participating universities and TAFEs.
Six educational institutions have been awarded grants, with a total of $250,000 for First Nations communities and remote communities.
- Adelaide University - the APY Lands.
- Edith Cowan University - in and around Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek.
- James Cook University - Mareeba, Wujal Wujal, Yarrabah, Mount Isa, Palm Island, Loftus Glen Correctional Centre, Lockhart River.
- Curtin University - Newman, Tom Price, Jigalong, Geraldton, Ngaanyatjarra (NG) Lands, Kalgoorlie, Leonora, Laverton, Cosmo.
- Charles Darwin University - Croker Island (Minjilang), Ramingining, Jabiru, Galiwinku, Tiwi Islands, Wadeye, Maningrida, Gunbalanya.
- TAFE NSW - Lismore, Macksville, Bega, Dubbo.
