Taxi driver assaulted and robbed during road rage incident in Sydney's east

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed during a road rage incident in Sydney’s east yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 12.30pm today, a 50-year-old taxi driver was transporting a woman with her disabled daughter from Malabar to Burwood.

Police have been told while the man drove along Anzac Parade, Kingsford, an unknown man walked in front of the vehicle, causing the taxi driver to sound his horn.

A short time later, the taxi driver noticed the same man travelling behind him in a ute, then driving beside the taxi and throwing objects at the vehicle.

Both vehicles came to a stop on Anzac Parade. The driver of the ute approached and kicked the taxi, before assaulting the taxi driver a number of times and taking his mobile phone.

The driver of the ute left the scene and the taxi driver contacted police.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command commenced investigating the incident.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 25-years-old, of slim build, 170cm tall, with brown hair. The man was wearing a black cap, green jumper and long pants.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
