Taxi driver charged after indecently assaulting passenger in Sydney

A taxi driver will appear in court next month after he allegedly indecently assaulted a woman during a journey between the Sydney CBD and Leichhardt on Friday, NSW Police say.

About 11.45pm (16 December 2016), a 25-year-old woman left a licensed premises on George Street in the Sydney CBD and got into a taxi, instructing the driver to take her to Leichhardt.

Police will allege during the journey the driver, a 45-year-old man, indecently assaulted the woman a number of times.

The man took the woman to Norton Street, Leichhardt, when he got out of the vehicle and attempted to stop the woman, however, he drove from the scene a short time later.

The woman reported the incident to police and officers from Leichhardt Local Area Command commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, about 2pm today, a 45-year-old man attended Glebe Police Station where he was arrested.

The man was charged with assault and indecent assault. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on 13 January 2017.
