Team Townsville helping the city's recovery

Team Townsville is getting out across the community to help our city recover from the unprecedented flood.

The Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group (TLRRG) – chaired by Deputy Mayor Les Walker – will focus on rebuilding infrastructure, kickstarting an economic recovery, providing social support and protecting the environment.

The TLRRG started meeting during the early days of the flooding and are already delivering programs and providing assistance to help residents and businesses get back on their feet.

Cr Walker said the recovery effort was going to be similar to a marathon.

"It's going to be a long, hard slog to rebuild our city and help our residents recover," Cr Walker said.

"The TLRRG is working with State and Federal agencies which are providing assistance ranging from crisis accommodation to small business support.

"The recovery effort has already started, and we won't stop until the job is done."

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill encouraged everyone to join Team Townsville and assist the recovery effort where possible.

"We're asking the community to use #teamtownsville and #whateverittakes to show us how their recovery is progressing," Cr Hill said.

"This flood has shown that Towsville is an incredibly resilient city – we will bounce back even stronger than before."
