Teen arrested as inquiries continue into Newtown house fire

A teenager has been arrested as inquiries continue into a house fire in Sydney's inner-west overnight.

About 1.00am (Monday 24 May 2021), emergency services were called to the home on Darley Street, Newtown, following reports of a fire.

The fire spread to adjoining houses and residents were evacuated. There were no reports of injuries.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which had caused significant damage to four houses on the street.

Police established a crime scene and are investigating the cause of the fire.

Following inquiries, a 13-year-old boy was arrested at Lilyfield about 3.30pm today (Monday 24 May 2021).

He has been taken to Newtown Police Station where he remains in custody.
