Teen charged after off-duty officer seriously assaulted in Northern Beaches

A teenager will face court today after being charged in relation to the assault of an off-duty police officer on the Northern beaches yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 4.40pm (Wednesday 7 February 2018), it will be alleged the off-duty officer was seriously assaulted when he attempted to intervene in an effort to protect the victim of an alleged assault on Allambie Road at Allambie Heights.

A second off-duty officer saw the assault and gave chase, arresting a 17-year-old male before officers from Northern Beaches Local Area Command attended.

The officer suffered multiple facial fractures and was taken to hospital. He has since been released.

The teen was taken to Manly Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to police officer on duty reckless as to actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Thursday 8 February 2018).
