A teenager has been charged after allegedly throwing beer bottles at police during a brawl at Granville, NSW Police say.
About 11.45pm today, police from Rosehill Local Area Command were called to a park on Memorial Avenue following reports of up to 25 males fighting.
As they arrived, most of the males ran from the scene but several glass bottles were thrown at a police car, smashing a rear window.
Glass bottles were also thrown directly at two officers who were forced to call for urgent assistance.
Additional police from Parramatta, Holroyd, Police Transport Command, Public Order and Riot Squad and the dog unit responded to assist.
A teen allegedly ran up to a police car and threw a glass bottle at the driver’s door before running off.
Officers chased the teen and located him hiding in the rear of a nearby church.
The 16-year-old was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with throw missile at police officer executing duty.
He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court tomorrow.
Inquiries are underway to identify the others involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact Granville Police or Crime Stoppers.
