A teenager has been charged after he allegedly failed to stop for police while riding an unregistered trail bike in Sydney’s west today, NSW Police say.
About 11.45am today, police from Rosehill Local Area Command were patrolling on Robertson Road, Guildford, when they observed a trail bike near Rawson Road.
Police will allege the rider, a 17-year-old youth, was not wearing a helmet. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle by activating lights and sirens.
When the rider allegedly failed to stop and drove away, a pursuit was not initiated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, following continued patrols, a 17-year-old boy and his passenger were arrested near the intersection of Dixmude and Mackay Streets, South Granville, and the trail bike was allegedly located in nearby bushland in a river.
The 17-year-old boy was taken to Merrylands Police Station and charged with eight offences, including:
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road;
- Drive recklessly or in manner dangerous;
- Not obey direction of police (x2);
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle;
- Rider without helmet ride with one passenger without helmet;
- Driver use mobile phone when not permitted; and,
- Use uninsured motor vehicle.
He was granted conditional bail to face a children’s court on Wednesday 5 October 2016.
The passenger was released without charge.
