Teen Charged in Tamworth Break-Ins 22 May

A teenage boy has faced court following several alleged break and enter incidents in the state's north-east last week.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a home on Rawson Avenue, North Tamworth, about 3.40am on Friday 15 May 2026, with reports of a break and enter.

Police were told a set of motor vehicle keys had been stolen from inside the home during the break-in, with an unknown male allegedly stealing the resident's Toyota SUV, sometime between 11.30pm Thursday 14 May 2026 and 3.30am Friday 15 May 2026.

About 3.30am the following morning (Friday 15 May 2026), a home on Campbell Road, Calala, was reportedly broken into by two males, before the alleged offenders were disturbed and fled the scene in the SUV.

Following inquiries, officers located and recovered the stolen vehicle later that morning, which was parked outside a hospital on Dean Street, North Tamworth.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, about 9.15am yesterday (Thursday 21 May 2026), police arrested a 15-year-old boy at an address in Oxley Vale. He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with,

  • Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-people there (two counts),
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and
  • Breach of bail.

The teen was refused bail and appeared before a children's court yesterday (Thursday 21 May 2026), where he was formally refused bail and reappeared at a children's court today (Friday 22 May 2026).

The boy was formally refused bail today and will next appear before a children's court on Monday 15 June 2026.
